Introduction
It has been a tradition since 1797, Jamugurihat organises and hosts the well acclaimed and well appreciated Barechaharia Bhowna Mahotsav in every five years. This occasion finds its genesis in the Performing Art of Bhowna form which was first propagated by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva during the Vaishnavite movement with the philosophy of bringing communities together.
Subsequent to the last edition held in 2018, the next one will be held this year on 6, 7, 8 and 9 March 2023 at Pokamura Field in Jamugurihat. The event spanning over 4 days will showcase various episodes of Traditional Bhowna in a series of 21 stages, the lotus shaped pandal constructed from locally available raw material such as bamboo, cane, timber, thatch etc. This grand event is a labour of love and devotion of the local community irrespective of caste and creed.
